History of Cabo Wabo Agave

Cabo Wabo Agave was founded in 1996 by legendary rocker Sammy Hagar. Hagar’s love for tequila led him to create his own brand, which quickly gained a following among tequila connoisseurs and music fans alike. The name “Cabo Wabo” comes from Hagar’s favorite spot in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – a small cantina where he would go to unwind after his concerts. Hagar’s vision for Cabo Wabo Agave was to create a tequila that embodied the same sense of fun, adventure, and relaxation that he experienced at the cantina.

In 2007, Hagar sold 80% of Cabo Wabo Agave to Campari Group, but he remains involved in the brand as a spokesperson and promoter.

Production Process

Cabo Wabo Agave is made using only the finest blue Weber agave plants, which are grown in the fertile red soil of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave is harvested by hand, and the hearts (piñas) are cooked in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours. This cooking process gives Cabo Wabo Agave its signature smoothness and rich flavor.

After cooking, the piñas are crushed to extract the juice, which is then fermented for several days to convert the sugars into alcohol. The resulting liquid is distilled twice to create a tequila that is 100% pure agave.

Unique Flavors

Cabo Wabo Agave offers a range of tequilas, each with its own unique flavor profile:

Cabo Wabo Blanco: A clear, unaged tequila with a crisp, clean taste and hints of citrus and spice.
Cabo Wabo Reposado: Aged in oak barrels for up to a year, this tequila has a smooth, mellow flavor with notes of vanilla and caramel.
Cabo Wabo Añejo: Aged in oak barrels for at least 14 months, this tequila has a rich, complex flavor with hints of chocolate, coffee, and cinnamon.
Cabo Uno: A limited-edition tequila that is aged for five years in American oak barrels, giving it a deep, smoky flavor with notes of toasted oak and vanilla.
